Boosting pangasius exports to Brazil

News 17:55 12/09/2014
(pangasius-vietnam.com) Through September 15th, 2013, Vietnam seafood exports to Brazil reached US$72.7 million, sharply increasing by 70.6 percent against the compatible period of last year, according to statistics from Vietnam Customs. The rise is chiefly led by a growth of 70.5 percent in pangasius sales to this destination.

With proportion of 6.1 percent, Brazil ranked fourth among Vietnam’s pangasius importers, after the U.S. (US$273.7 million), the EU (US$267.2 million) and ASEAN (US$86.4 million). However, this market got the highest growth in import in the top fours.

Brazil is currently sourcing more frozen fish fillets of all varieties, in which, pangasius products are the most purchased, followed by Alaska pollock and hake.

Growth is still seen in fish purchase from the four leading suppliers - including China, Chile, Vietnam and Argentina. In which, Chile got the strongest rise, and then Vietnam, Argentina and China.

Through August 2013, Brazil spent US$321.4 million on purchasing 118,066 MT of frozen fish fillets (HS code 0304). Of which, China was the largest supplier with 51,262 MT valued at US$108.2 million, referring to International Trade Center (ITC). Vietnam ranked second with 34,634 MT and US$70.6 million. Vietnam mainly sent pangasius to this market.

Though Brazil is accelerating pangasius purchase from Vietnam, the average price of exported fishes trends to go down.
