Ca Mau Province plans to build 13 fishing ports

News 08:35 26/08/2024
(seafood.com.vn) Decision no 1587/QD-UBND approving the Investment and Upgrading Plan for Fisheries Infrastructure until 2030, with a vision to 2045, of the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province was announced on August 9, 2024. The objective is to complete the construction of 13 fishing ports.

This includes 1 Class I fishing port, 6 Class II fishing ports, and 6 Class II fishing ports, with a total annual seafood receiving capacity of 193,000 tons. This forms the foundation for managing modern fisheries, ensuring traceability of seafood origins, and preventing illegal fishing activities.

At the same time, 13 storm shelters will be invested in for upgrade and construction, including 2 regional and 11 provincial-level shelters, ensuring safe shelters for 7,700 fishing vessels during the storm.

Other fisheries infrastructure such as new shipbuilding; vessel renovation and repair; seafood processing plants and zones; and fuel, ice, and fishing gear supply facilities will be upgraded to meet business standards and best serve the logistics needs of the fishing industry.

Ca Mau Province has an area of 5,331.6 square km and enjoys the advantage of a maritime economy, with three sides bordering the East Sea and a coastline of 254 km. In the first 6 months of 2024, Ca Mau achieved a total seafood production of 326,170 tons, of which 205,300 tons came from aquaculture. These figures demonstrate the potential of Ca Mau in aquaculture, fisheries capture, and the development of the maritime economy.
