Safer pangasius on European dining tables

The Mekong Delta in Vietnam provides 90% of the world’s pangasius. In conjunction with an increasing global demand for pangasius products in the last decade, importing countries have been raising concerns about the safety of pangasius coming from Vietnam and the social and environmental impact of the industry.
To address consumers’ concerns and difficulties in accessing foreign markets, a dedicated SWITCH-Asia project was launched in 2013, called “SUPA”. In these past four years, the project has been working with stakeholders along the whole pangasius supply chain to enhance the sustainability of this sector. SUPA intervened in the pre-production, production, processing, market and policy areas of the pangasius sector, contributing to an increased presence of safer Vietnamese pangasius in European markets.
