Greenpeace sounds the alarm on the state of Philippine tuna, calls for action to ensure a sustainable tuna industry. General Santos City, Philippines, September 8, 2013 – Greenpeace today warned major tuna industry players in the Phillippines that unless drastic measures are put into place to halt the decline of the world’s tuna stocks there will be no future for their mutli-billion peso businesses.

Established in 1990 in the United States, the Dolphin Safe/Dolphin Friendly eco-label was set up to ensure tuna was caught by methods which do not harm or kill dolphins in the process. And in the past 23 years it seems the label, which belongs to the Earth Island Institute, has more or less served its purpose with the majority of the world’s canneries subscribing to the cause.
