As EMS still ravages Thailand, European vannamei buyers are plagued by continuously mounting prices. European shrimp importers are bemoaning high shrimp prices, triggered by a drop in production as a result of the early mortality syndrome (EMS) which has been depleting output in Thailand since last year.

(vasep.com.vn) In the first 8 months of 2014 Minh Bach Seafood exported 1,938 MT of shrimp with the value of US$ 22,044 million, in which EU accounted for 40%. Shrimp exports increased both in volume and value compared to the same period in 2013.

(vasep.com.vn) Value of New Wind Seafood Co. Ltd exports in the first 8 months of 2014 reached US$ 7 million. The company exported shrimps to Japan, South Korea and the United States. However, tempura shrimp is the only product the company sells to the United States. Japan is the largest market for this company, accounted for 85% of total export volume.

As of 15th August 2014, shrimp exports are still in favorable conditions as exports to main markets are strongly growing. Particularly, exports to South Korea increased by 114.5% year on year. Eight first months of 2014 saw an 80.3% increase in exports to the United States, 4.8% rise to Japan and 98.8% surge to EU.

(vasep.com.vn) Due to unstable prices coupled with complicated shrimp disease development, Phu Tan district (Ca Mau) has over 1,900 hectares of shrimp farms, reported as a fall from the previous year.
