New Wind Seafood Co. Ltd: stable demand for shrimp in Japan
(vasep.com.vn) Value of New Wind Seafood Co. Ltd exports in the first 8 months of 2014 reached US$ 7 million. The company exported shrimps to Japan, South Korea and the United States. However, tempura shrimp is the only product the company sells to the United States. Japan is the largest market for this company, accounted for 85% of total export volume.
According to the company, demand for shrimp in Japan is stable this year. Last year, shrimp prices rose in the first months and importers waited until the third quarter with the hope of price decrease. However, price did not fall as expected, Japanese importers did not purchase enough goods to sell in their domestic market. This year, orders are made at the beginning of the year, although the number of orders and volumes are low.
Thailand, the largest shrimp supplier for Japan, is facing shrimp diseases, thus making an opportunity for Vietnam to boost shrimp exports to Japan.
