Strengthen shrimp management

(vasep.com.vn) Due to unstable prices coupled with complicated shrimp disease development, Phu Tan district (Ca Mau) has over 1,900 hectares of shrimp farms, reported as a fall from the previous year.

From the beginning of the year, the disease affected 523 hectares of shrimp farms in Phu Tan district, accounting for more than  26% of the shrimp farming area.

Experts cooperating with towns and commune authorities provided 36 tons of chemicals for farmers clean 100 hectares of ponds. Many farmers farms for trends and do not comply with standard procedures, lack water treatment. This makes the real amount of hectare ​​damaged by diseases higher than reported.

Statistics show that from 1,000 hectares harvested of the total ​​1,900 hectares, over 40% yielded well and the rest is early harvested. It is revealed that the proportion of infected shrimp is relatively high.

It is, therefore, becoming urgent to help farmers choose improve breeding techniques, environmental management of shrimp ponds, in order to minimize potential damage to improve production efficiency.
