Vietnam’s tra fish sold at Aeon supermarkets in Japan is listed among “TopValu” products which are goods with leading quality.

Operating effectively for 20 years with a fully integrated production model, the self-control of raw material supply and the stringent product quality management, Vinh Hoan is now the leading pangasius producer in Vietnam.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the ITC, in 2012, Saudi Arabia imported only 192 MT of frozen pangasius (HS 030324) with the value of about US$365,000. After five years, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia showed the 57-time increase in volume to hit nearly 11 thousand MT and 49-time rise in value to touch US$17.7 million.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vinh Hoan Corp, the leading pangasius company of Vietnam, expected to achieve an average annual revenue and profit growth rate of 15% per year in the context of scarce raw material and high prices.

Regulations concerning exporting pangasius from Vietnam towards the US will be tightened from September onwards. This is stated by Mr Luan (Deputy Director) of Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) from Vietnam - at a pangasius stakeholders meet-up at the Seafood Expo Global trade show in Brussels.

Accurate and detailed information about the production and trade of Vietnam’s tra fish was provided to the Spanish press at a press conference held in the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain on May 25.

The Government has issued a decree on aquaculture management, and tra fish products processing and export, the Government Office reported.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 3 months of 2017, Vietnam’s pangasius exports valued at US$371.3 million, up 1.6% over the same period last year. There was a shift in the importing market structure, in which, exports to China continued to increase by 56.8%.

Vietnamese pangasius producer and processor Vinh Hoan Corporation will invest in its recently-acquired Thanh Binh Dong Thap Fisheries plant in late 2017 and early 2018, to raise its capacity by 15%, Vinh Hoan CEO Nguyen Ngo Vi Tam told Undercurrent News.

Vietnam’s pangasius industry has seen its European sales plummet in the months following a damaging expose that aired on Spanish television in January 2017, but at a roundtable at Seafood Expo Global, the sector’s leaders began to formulate a comprehensive strategy to regain its market share.

Vietnam is taking part in the 25th Seafood Expo Global in Brussels, Belgium, aiming to convey the diversity and quality of Vietnamese aquatic products and seafood to customers in Europe and across the world.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first two months of 2017, Vietnam pangasius exports to Mexico reached US$15.5 million, up 38% over the same period last year. Thus, after China and the US, Mexico was the third largest import market of Vietnam pangasius in the early 2017.

Pangasius producer Vinh Hoan has paid a visit to one of China’s largest seafood companies to collaborate on “formal pangasius trade”. It comes amid Chinese concerns about low quality pangasius entering the country via the unofficial ‘grey trade’ route.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2016, Germany is still the fourth largest importing market of Vietnamese pangasius in Europe after (Netherlands, UK and Spain). However, in the year, pangasius exports to the market continuously decreased in value from 1.1 to 34.8% over the same period last year. Up to the first half of February 2017, the value of pangasius exports to Germany reached US$3.19 million, down 25.8% over the same period in 2016.

The price of the fish has been rising since before Tet (Lunar New Year) at the end of January and now stands at 27,000 VND (1.2 USD) per kilogramme, thought to be the highest level in the last few years.
