Pangasius exports to EU expected to take advantage of EVFTA

Earlier this year, the demand for imports was slow, and the epidemic of Covid-19 just started to impact on the export of pangasius to this market. However, the magnitude of the exacerbations in most other markets became evident from the second quarter of 2020. In the 3 months of the second quarter, the export value to the four largest markets in the EU decreased for two consecutive digits. Trade activities were stalled because many countries were the center of the epidemic, including two major countries: Italy and Spain. Although the demand for food hoarding in many European countries has increased, the retail system and online sales have been better, import and export activities have been delayed due to the interruption of shipping systems and commercial transactions also suspended.

Those are the immediate expectations after the EU countries' trade and seafood business stabilize again. Also at this time, the export of Vietnamese pangasius to the EU is still decreasing, especially after the UK has left the EU. Before that, the UK was one of the potential pangasius export markets of Vietnam in Europe.

Currently, there are more than 30 companies exporting pangasius to the EU market, of which 20 companies exporting pangasius to the main market in the region, the Netherlands. NTSF SEAFOODS, Vinh VINH HOAN CORP, and VINH QUANG are the three companies with the largest pangasius export value to the Netherlands in the first 8 months of 2020.

During this time, Vietnam exported outstanding pangasius products such as Frozen breaded pangasius; frozen pangasius fillets, frozen pangasius slice cut/pieces, frozen marinated pangasius ... to the EU market.
