(seafood.vasep.com.vn) South Korea is the largest consumer of Vietnam's cephalopod, accounting for 39% of Vietnam's total cephalopod exports to all markets. In the past 3 years, South Korea's demand for imported cephalopod has maintained a relatively stable growth rate.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In November of 2018, cephalopod exports of Vietnam continued to prosper with higher growth than the previous month. Export value in November 2018 reached over US$64.8 million, up by 25.5% compared to November 2017, bringing the total value in the first 11 months of this year to US$606.7 million, up 6.3% compared to the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) China is the fifth largest importer of cephalopod in Vietnam, accounting for 7.5% of Vietnam's total cephalopod exports value to markets. Cephalopod exports to this market increased remarkably in the first 5 months while decreased from June to September.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After 2 months of continuous decline, cephalopod exports of Vietnam has recovered, however, the growth rate is relatively low. According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, the exports value of cephalopod in September 2018 reached US$57 million, with a rise of 3% compared to September 2017, bringing the total export value in the first nine months to US$474 million, increasing by 3.5% over the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first five months of 2018, Italy's cephalopod imports decreased. The reason was that the fall in production led to a shortage of the supply, which has pushed the prices of cephalopod higher and reduced the demand for imports into this country.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's cephalopod exports continued to slow down. The export value in August reached nearly US$64 million, down 7.8% compared with August 2017. However, thanks to the good growth in the previous months, the total export value in the first eight months was up 3.5% over the same period, reaching US$417 million.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The U.S held as one of the six leading importing markets of Vietnamese cephalopod in the first 7 months of 2018. According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to the U.S in Jun and July 2018 decreased, but thanks to the good growth in the first five months of the year, the total export value in the first 7 months year to this market still increased by 31.8%, reaching more than US$5.5 million.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the continuous growth in the first 6 months of 2018, Vietnam's cephalopod sales to South Korea decreased in July 2018. According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to South Korea in July 2018 reached nearly US$ 20 million, down 2.8% over July 2017.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) While Vietnam’s cephalopod sales to other major markets decreased, exports to Russia remained the impressive growth. From the beginning of the year, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Russia posted the continuous growth. In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Russia hit nearly US$3.2 million, an increase of 334% over the same period in 2017. Vietnam mainly shipped fresh/live/frozen cephalopod to this market. Of that, exports of fresh/live/frozen octopus accounted for more than 88% of Vietnam's cephalopod export value to Russia.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After a slow growth in June, Vietnam's cephalopod sales in July fell by 15% compared with July 2017, reaching US$54 million. Exports to most major markets such as South Korea, Japan, the EU and ASEAN decreased compared with the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Russia's cephalopod imports fell in the first five months of 2018. According to Russian customs statistics, in the first five months of this year Russia imported more than 4,000 MT of cephalopod from other countries, down 6% over the same period in 2017.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) While seafood exports encounter difficulties selling to the EU, many Vietnamese cephalopod enterprises currently shifted their exports to Thailand. The country was the seventh largest importer of cephalopod in the world and also the largest buyer in ASEAN which currently increased imports from Vietnam.

However, with the good growth rate in the January and April, ASEAN stayed as the 3rd largest buyer of Vietnamese cephalopod. The region became a potential export market of Vietnam while exports to main markets faced difficulties.
