Exports of crabs rose the most by 26%, exports of marine fish increased by 21%, that of bivalve molluscs hiked slightly by 4%, but surimi exports decreased by 6%.

In the first 6 months of 2020, cephalopod exports reached nearly US$ 240 million, down 16.9% over the same period in 2019. The export of Vietnamese cephalopod in the first 6 months of this year was still affected by the Covid-19 epidemic and the limited supply of raw materials for production. China was still Vietnam's importer of cephalopod with the most stable demand in the first 6 months of 2020.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first five months of 2020, Japan imported cephalopod from 11 suppliers. China, Vietnam, and Thailand were the three largest suppliers, accounting for 81%, 9.5%, and 4.8% of the total import value of Japanese cephalopod respectively.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After a slight decrease in the first two months of the year due to the impact of Covid-19 epidemic, Vietnamese cephalopod exports to China has recovered slightly in March and increased sharply in April 2020. It is expected that exports of cephalopod to this market will continue to grow well in May.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the International Trade Center (ITC), in the first four months of this year, South Korea imported cephalopod from nine importers, of which Vietnam was the third-largest supplier. Cephalopod imports of South Korea in the first four months of this year reached nearly US$96 million, down 13.4% over the same period in 2019. China was the largest supplier of cephalopod for South Korea. South Korea's cephalopod imports from staple suppliers all slumped.

In the first 5 months of the year, cephalopod exports reached nearly US$192 million, down 21.2% over the same period in 2019. The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic reduced demand and production materials. Therefore, Vietnamese cephalopod exports in the first 5 months of 2020 continued to decline.

Coastal provinces across the country have ramped up the installation of vessel monitoring systems (VMS) in fishing ships as part of measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh plans to expand breeding clams on more than 15,000ha of alluvial grounds along coastal areas, with priority given to poor households, Pham Minh Truyen, director of the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said.
