Vietnam’s crab exports to the U.S. remain unstable

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s exports of crabs and other crustaceans have shown steady growth since the beginning of this year. However, the pace of growth has recently started to slow down. According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, export turnover of this product group reached over USD 113 million in the first four months of 2025, up 51% compared to the same period in 2024—nearly three times higher than the same period in 2023.

During this period, exports of all crab and other crustacean species from Vietnam recorded growth. Notably, crab—Vietnam’s key product—saw a year-on-year increase of 65%. By product type, all categories recorded growth compared to the same period last year, except for processed products. Exports of dried, salted, fresh, and frozen products surged by 78% year-on-year, while canned product exports rose by 18%.

As of the end of April 2025, Vietnam had exported crabs and other crustacean products to 21 global markets. Among them, exports to major markets all posted solid growth.

 

In top markets like China and Hong Kong, crab exports remained high across the months, increasing by 90% in the first four months of the year. Along with China, exports to member countries of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), such as Japan and Canada, also maintained strong growth during this period.

Remarkably, crab exports to the EU are increasing impressively, with triple-digit growth of 106% year-on-year. However, the total export value to this bloc remains modest.

In contrast, exports to the United States remained flat compared to the same period last year. Changes in U.S. trade policies have restrained export shipments to this market, leading to unstable sales performance.

Currently, over 80 Vietnamese enterprises are engaged in the export of crabs and other crustaceans.

Vietnam pangasius exports in February 2026: China remains the leading market

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In February 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached USD 119 million, down slightly 5% year-on-year. However, thanks to strong performance in January, cumulative exports in the first two months of the year still reached USD 331 million, up 28% compared to the same period in 2025. Export activity slowed somewhat in February due to seasonal factors, particularly the Lunar New Year holiday, which disrupted production and shipments at many seafood processing enterprises.

Da Nang promotes high-tech shrimp farming

Many shrimp farms have invested in automated environmental monitoring systems, continuously tracking indicators such as pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity, enabling farmers to promptly adjust pond conditions and reduce disease risks.
