Vietnam pangasius exports to Mexico increase dramatically

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) For many Vietnam’s pangasius exporters, Mexico is the current “hottest” market within the CPTPP. As of the first half of May 2022, the total export value of Vietnam pangasius to Mexico reached 45.6 mil USD, an increase of 70% compared to the same period last year, which accounts for 4.3% of the total pangasius export value. This result shows that Mexico is a potential and attractive destination with an even higher export value than Brazil.

Vietnam's pangasius export to the Mexican market is flourishing, accounting for the largest proportion in the CTPP market. Vietnam pangasius export value to this market in the first half of the year build up 35% of the total value of the whole block. 

The average export price of frozen pangasius fillets to Mexico has risen from 2.6 USD to 2.75 USD/kg. Many pangasius enterprises have moved from other markets to Mexico. More than 30 Vietnam seafood enterprises exported pangasius to Mexico in this quarter. Top 3 enterprises with the highest export value are IDI CORP; Vietnamfishco. ltd, and Cuu Long fish joint-stock Company, respectively. Pangasius processors in Dong Thap, An Giang, Ben Tre, Can Tho and Vinh Long is promoting pangasius export to this market.

Currently, Vietnam is exporting 2 main pangasius products to Mexico which are frozen pangasius fillets and frozen pangasius portions.
