Up 8% in VN cephalopod exports to Japan

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Japanese market in 2016 reached US$109.6 million, up 8.1% compared to 2015. Japan was the 2nd largest with the proportion of 25% in 2016 from the proportion of 23.6% in 2015.

In 2016, import price of frozen octopus into Japan decreased in the first quarter and began to rise in QII. The import average price of octopus into Japan reached the lowest in March (US$6/kg) and the highest in September (US$8/kg).

Vietnam ranked the 4th in supplying frozen octopus to Japan after Morocco, Mauritania and China. Among top 4 leading suppliers to Japan, imports of frozen octopus from China rose in 2016 while imports from the 3 remaining suppliers declined. The average price of frozen octopus from Vietnam exported to Japan in 2016 was also lower than those of these 3 suppliers.

The imports of frozen squid into Japan in 2016 increased compared to 2015. Although in the early 2016, imports of frozen squid into the market decreased, import volume of this item since July rose.

The average import price of frozen squid into Japan in the first 5 months of 2016 ranged US$2.5 to 3.2 /kg.The import price of this item in 2016 was higher than 2015. China, Chile and Peru were top 3 suppliers of frozen squid to Japan. Vietnam only exported a small volume of this item to Japan.

Demand for Vietnamese crab from markets recovered

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vinh Long Statistics Department, the whole province currently has 2,119 hectares of aquaculture area, an increase of 1.03% (equivalent to an increase of 21.62 hectares) over the same period last year; Of which the industrial pangasius farming area is 370.8 hectares, an increase of 0.12% or an increase of 0.42 hectares.

Competition is increasing in the Middle East tuna market

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) 2023 was an unsuccessful year not only for Vietnamese but also for Thailand tuna exporters in the Middle East market. Thailand's tuna exports to this market decreased by 21% in value and 27% in volume compared to 2022. Therefore, the Middle East dropped to second position among Thailand's export markets after the US, accounting for 22% of total export turnover in 2023.

All-out efforts needed to get IUU yellow card removed: Minister

The average export price of pangasius to the US increased

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to data from Vietnam Customs, in March 2024, Vietnamese pangasius export turnover to markets reached 156 million USD, down 14% over the same period. Vietnam pangasius export value in QI/2024 reached 411 million USD, down 3% compared to QI/2023.

Vietnam raw shrimp output and prices increased

Vietnam's total tuna export revenue for the first three months of 2024 was $215 million, up 19% from the same time in 2023 but down 17% from 2022. It is anticipated that tuna exports may miss the billion-dollar mark as in 2022 at this rate and the difficulties the business faces.
