Top 20 largest seafood exporters in Vietnam

News 14:06 13/09/2014
(vasep.com.vn) In 2011, the top 20 largest seafood exporters in Vietnam represented nearly 30 percent of total export value. In which, the majority are members of Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), including Minh Phu Seafood Corp and Vinh Hoan Corp, two elite companies in Vietnam fishery industry.

Over consecutive years, Minh Phu Seafood Corp has held the leading position in terms of seafood export revenue. While Vinh Hoan Corp, specializing in pangasius export, achieved remarkable progress and great business results in 2011.

Among the first 10 companies in the top, there are six shrimp companies including Minh Phu Seafood Corp, Quoc Viet Co., Ltd, Stapimex, Fimex VN, Phuong Nam Co., Ltd, CASES; the other four are pangasius exporters like Vinh Hoan Corp, Hung Vuong Corp, Agifish and Anvifish Co.

Yueh Chyang Co. and Nha Trang Seafoods F17 were in the second half of the top. They are exporters of tuna and other marine products which kept stable operation in the early 2011. In the last year, marine fish processors faced difficulties of limited raw material supply. In 2012, marine fish exporters must be moreactive in processing, trading and exporting operations to gain their targets.

Also this year, seafood export will face rising challenges as the result of unrecovered global economy, low demand for many seafood items and unsuitable policies which weakened competitiveness of Vietnam companies.

The 20 biggest seafood exporters, which contributed to the export record of US$6.1 billion in 2011, were as follows:

Compared with the 22% growth recorded in January, the pace of increase in February slowed somewhat, reflecting seasonal factors as the Lunar New Year holiday partially disrupted processing and shipment activities. Nevertheless, the nearly 20% growth in the first two months indicates that shrimp orders from Vietnam are maintaining a more positive trend than in the same period last year.
