Tien Giang farmers are excited to harvest pangasius because of high prices after Tet holiday

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the Lunar New Year, commercial pangasius production increased, prices increased. Many farmers take advantage of harvesting farming ponds to sell for high profits.

From the 5th day of Tet, many farmers in Tien Giang province harvested pangasius ponds at the request of seafood processing enterprises. Low supply while the demand for raw materials for factories after Tet increases led to high prices.

For small pangasius (under 1kg), the price is 28,000 VND/kg with profit of 4,000 VND/kg, the highest profit margin seen in the past year.

According to Tien Giang Fisheries Department, the whole province currently has nearly 170 ha of commercial pangasius ponds, concentrated along the Tien River in Cai Be and Cai Lay districts.

According to fishermen, the pangasius crop this Tet holiday was really favorable, rapid fish growth, minimal disease outbreaks, and stable prices for aquatic feed, leading to excitement among pangasius community.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thao - a farmers from Hoa Hung commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province – shared his excitement as he just harvested 300 tons of fish.

He supplies to a factory in Sa Dec (Dong Thap), who needed raw materials to resume operations on the 6th day of Tet so he harvested on the 5th. This time he sold small-sized fish for 28,000 VND/kg thanks to the current "not enough supply and demand". This season, the favorable weather resulted in fewer fish diseases, and the regular water flow during the flood season also contributed to their overall health."

Ben Tre Province poised to achieve 4,000-hectare target for high-tech shrimp farming development

To date, the province has converted 3,633 hectares to high-tech aquaculture out of the 4,000-hectare goal, representing 90.82% progress towards the 2021-2025 phase plan. This sector yields an average productivity of 60-70 tons per hectare, with a total output reaching 221,282 tons. The average profit margin ranges from VND 700 to 800 million per farming season, delivering substantial economic benefits to the local populace.
