(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam is one of Australia’s leading aquaculture suppliers and the country’s seafood has been performing impressively on the Australian market. Currently, Vietnam is regarded as almost the exclusive source for pangasius to Australia, with the export proportion reaching up to 98%. The country is also the leading exporter of processed shrimp to Australia, occupying 31.1% of total import value. In terms of tuna, Vietnam ranked the 4th with the market share of 1%.

Australia is an important consuming market of Vietnam seafood with the proportion of 2.5% of total seafood exports by Vietnam in Jan-Aug 2016. Australia is the 7th largest importer of Vietnam shrimp after the U.S., EU, Japan, China, South Korea, Canada with the proportion of 3.3% of total exports in Jan-Aug 2016.

To promote Vietnamese seafood in Australian market, Vietnam Trade Office in Australia has compiled and published a book to introduce Vietnam seafood in English. The book includes the overview on safe and responsible production process of shrimp and pangasius which are two main seafood items exported from Vietnam to Australia.

This book also focuses on the development of these two products in order to provide more insights on how the tropical aquatic specialties make their way to Australian plates.  The recipes and directions to process and cook pangasius and shrimp to suit the taste of Australian people are included in the book.
