Pangasius exports to Brazil increased by 1.5 times

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) This year, pangasius exports to the Latin American market are quite good, most notably Mexico and Brazil. As of the first half of October 2021, the total value of pangasius exports to Brazil increased by more than 1.5 times over the same period last year, reaching 47.44 million USD.

The year 2021 - 2022 is forecasted to be a difficult period for Brazilian importers because the country's economy is struggling to recover from the epidemic, the real local currency depreciates. Therefore, importers also try to import farmed aquatic products at cheaper prices.

Brazil's demand for food and food imports is also forecasted to increase sharply from now until the end of the year and the whole of 2022. This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese pangasius exporters to promote to the Brazilian market during this time. next.

According to the most updated statistics of ITC, in the first nine months of this year, the total value of Brazil's frozen seafood imports also increased by nearly 40% over the same period last year. In which, the import value of white fish increased by 14.5%, especially the import of pangasius fillets from Vietnam increased by 41.3%. This year, pangasius and salmon are two favorite seafood products of Brazilian importers.

In the first 9 months of this year, 96% of Vietnamese pangasius products exported to Brazil were frozen fillets. There are 20 Vietnamese pangasius enterprises actively participating in exporting to this market, in which, the largest companies are Southern Seafood Industry Company Limited (SOUTH VINA - Can Tho); Hung Ca 6 Joint Stock Company (HUNG CA Co.,Ltd - Dong Thap) and Cadovimex II Seafood Import-Export and Processing Joint Stock Company (CADOVIMEX II - Dong Thap).

Vietnam is currently the leading and dominant supplier of white fish products in Brazil. It can be said that, in 2021, Brazil and some other potential markets in South America are new opportunities for Vietnamese pangasius enterprises.

Cumulatively, exports in the first two months of 2026 totaled USD 1.7 billion, an increase of 20.2% year-on-year. The results show that the sector’s recovery momentum has remained relatively solid following strong growth in January, although the pace slowed noticeably in February for several key products and major markets. Within the overall picture, shrimp continues to be the largest pillar, pangasius rebounds strongly, while tuna exports and the U.S. and Korean markets are sending signals that warrant closer monitoring. In March, seafood exports are expected to gain additional momentum from markets other than the U.S., potentially supporting stronger growth.
