Wholesales & Ethnic market importing mostly from India, Bangladesh and Vietnam.  Predominantly treated, raw & cooked, glazed peeled vannamei shrimps. Mostly focused on price.

Italian market appreciates the quality of South American shrimps (Ecuador, Argentina, Panama) mainly in HOSO and HLSO format. (wholesales, retail and industry)

Asian origin: (India, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and China)

            - Heavily treated

            - Heavily glazed,

            - Raw, blanched or cooked, peeled shrimps

            - Small sizes

Difficult market due to traditionally mislabelling products with glaze and  complicated supply chain with the presence of “buying agent”.

In general is a market where there is the “very high quality” vs  “very low quality” products depending of the end customer.

Ahold is the most important retail, closely followed by the German discounters Aldi and Lidl.

Major port of destination for shrimp importation therefore the volumes might not reflect directly their own domestic consumption. A large part of this shrimp will end up in other neighbouring countries.

Major reprocessing facilities located in Netherlands also supplying other markets such as Germany, Italy, France, UK retailers and wholesalers.

Major retail groups: EDEKA, REWE, Lidl, Kaufland, Aldi and Metro Cash & Carry.  Predominantly untreated, cooked and peeled shrimps with increasing trend to adopt certificates focused on environment and social sustainability schemes. (ASC and GlobalGap)

The retail market in Germany, after the UK, is one of the most demanding market for food safety, environment and social certifications, quality and traceability. At the same time, one of the toughest markets in terms of pricing, as the German consumer in general, assumes that the above requirements should be a norm without having to pay extra for it.

German wholesale market still have good demand for black tiger shrimps.

Vietnam’s fisheries sector targets output of over 10 million tons in 2026

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the 2025 review and 2026 outlook conference held by the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance on the afternoon of January 7, Vietnam’s seafood sector has set a total production target of over 10 million tons in 2026, representing a 0.6% increase year-on-year. Of this total, capture fisheries are projected at around 3.75 million tons (down 2.1%), while aquaculture output is expected to reach 6.25 million tonnes (up 2.2%) compared with 2025.

Vinh Long reaches 7,500 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming

Can Tho’s fisheries sector records 6.26% growth in 2025

Ca Mau completes all assigned tasks in fight against IUU fishing

Shrimp exports over 11 months: Consolidating markets and maintaining growth momentum amidst trade pressures

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs data, cumulative shrimp exports from the beginning of the year through November reached $4.3 billion, up 21% year-on-year, continuing to serve as the primary growth driver of the entire seafood sector. In November alone, export turnover amounted to $393 million, up 14%.
