Bac Lieu province focuses on efficient and sustainable fishing

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Bac Lieu is promoting effective and safe fishing and fishing solutions to strive for a total output of 150,000 tons of marine and domestic fishery exploitation by 2025, including 11,000 tons of shrimp and 139,000 tons of fish and other seafood.

To achieve these goals, Bac Lieu continues to implement policies on fisheries development; effectively implement the fishing program in the marine economic development strategy.

At the same time, the province is determined to comply with international regulations on the protection of aquatic resources to overcome the European Commission's warning against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. ; focus on strongly developing fleets with large capacity, modern equipment, capable of fishing far from shore, for long periods at sea. In addition, the province also continues to implement a program to modernize fishing vessels suitable for each type of occupation to ensure feasibility and efficiency. Moreover, the province will focus on exploiting seafood species with high economic value and good consumption market in association with building and protecting the brand name of exploited products, ensuring a stable source of raw materials for processing and exporting service. In the first 6 months of 2021, the weather was quite favorable for aquaculture so shrimp grows well, many shrimp farming models apply high technology to bring high economic efficiency. Aquaculture area is 133,508 ha, harvested 116,772 ha, with an output of 112,884 tons; in which shrimp made up 58,197 tons, fish and other aquatic products 54,687 tons, reaching 37.96% of the plan, up by 8.25% over the same period.

Tuna exports to Italy face difficulties at the end of 2024

Cumulatively, by December 15, 2024, export turnover to this market decreased by 18% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching over USD 30 million. With this decline, Italy is no longer Vietnam's largest tuna import market within the EU bloc.

Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) Nguyen Hoai Nam said that in the past 5-6 years, Vietnam's seafood export value has only hovered around 8-10 billion USD/year.
