GENERAL INFORMATION

In Vietnam, the fishery sector plays an important role in the national economy, accounting for about 4-5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and about 9-10% of national export revenue.

More than 4 millions of people working in the fishery and the growth in production have attributed to the fish exports. Thanks to strongly increase in many years, Vietnam ranks among the top ten seafood suppliers and its seafood products are exported to 170 markets in the world.

Shrimp, pangasius, tuna, squid and octopus are main seafood products exported by the country. In which, shrimp exports create about US$ 3.5 – 4 billion, make up 46-50% of the total seafood sales of Vietnam. Earnings from pangasius reached at US$ 1.7 – 1.8 billion (25% of the total) and exports from Tuna and Cephalopods are US$ 450 – 550 million for each.

Exports to the U.S, Japan, EU, China and South Korea make up 75% of Vietnam’s seafood sales to the wolrd.

Export potentials

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The Vietnam Record Organization has just recognized Minh Phu Seafood Corporation as the owner of the largest organic shrimp farming area in Vietnam's mangroves, with a total area of 9,722 hectares and a total area of 9,722 hectares and participation of 2010 Ca Mau farmer households.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) By the end of April 2021, Korea is the 5th largest seafood import market of Vietnam, with seafood import turnover from Vietnam reaching more than 227 million USD. In which, the export of marine products to this market accounted for 56%, reaching nearly 127 million USD, up 9% over the same period in 2020. In general, exports of commodity groups to Korea increased over the same period last 2020 (except for crabs and other crustaceans).

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 4 months of this year, the shrimp export value of the top 10 leading shrimp exporters in Vietnam reached 452 million USD, accounting for 47% of the total shrimp export of the country. In which, MINH PHU SEAFOOD CORP, STAPIMEX and MINH PHU HAU GIANG continue to be the top 3 exporters.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In April 2021, Vietnam's export of marine products reached more than 303 million USD, up 19% over the same period in 2020. Accumulated in the first 4 months of this year, the export of marine products reached more than 1 billion USD, accounting for 42% of the country's total seafood export value and an increase of 13% over the same period in 2020.

(seafood.com.vn) According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ca Mau province, export turnover of the province in the first 5 months of the year was estimated at 360.56 million USD, reaching 32.78% of the plan, up 19.25% over the same period of 2020. In which, seafood export is estimated at 331.82 million USD, equaling 31.78% of the plan, up 18.06% over the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first quarter of 2021, Vietnam's seafood exports to the US got 334 million USD, up 16.5% over the same period in 2020. After a strong increase of 36% in March, exports to this market soared 64% in April 2021 to reach US$149 million, bringing the result of exports to the US in the first 4 months of 2021 to US$483 million, up 28% compared to same period in 2020.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 3 months of 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU reached 28.4 million USD, up 8.6% over the same period in 2020. The EU continues to be Vietnam's second largest tuna import market. South, accounting for 19% of total export value.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After growing in the first month of the year, Vietnam's cephalopod exports to Japan decreased continuously in February and March, so the total value of squid exports, Vietnam's octopus to this market in the first quarter of 2021 decreased by 17% compared to the same period in 2020, reaching more than 24 million USD. Japan is currently Vietnam's second largest single cephalopod export market, accounting for 21%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam's shrimp exports to a number of markets grew dramatically compared to the same period last year, including the Australian market. As of the first half of April 2021, the total value of Vietnam's shrimp exports to the Australian market reached US$47.4 million, up 60% over the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In March 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports recovered with a 27% increase over the same period in 2020 reaching $66 million. As a result, the total value of Vietnam's tuna exports in the first three months of the year increased by 3.2% compared to the first quarter of 2020 to more than 151 million USD.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of the first half of April 2021, the total value of Vietnamese shrimp exports to the Japanese market reached 154.2 million USD, down 2.1% over the same period last year. Up to now, Japan is still Vietnam's largest black tiger shrimp export market. However, in the context of increasingly complicated Covid developments, the country continues to increase the amount of imports of vannamei shrimp because the price is more suitable.
