(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Dong Thap is accelerating the restructuring of its pangasius sector to enhance value and ensure sustainable growth. In the first half of 2025, Vietnam’s pangasius output reached over 871,900 MT, up 4.5% year-on-year, while export value hit USD 1.023 billion, up 11%. Dong Thap continues to play a key role, contributing about 35% of both output and export turnover.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In recent years, Dong Thap’s pangasius sector has affirmed its strong position in both the Mekong Delta region and the whole country, with export turnover increasing year after year. The province has been restructuring the pangasius industry, focusing on effective water environment monitoring, as well as digital transformation in the management and operation of the sector.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) For the first time, a shrimp farming model combining biomass and high technology has been applied at the farm of Tuan Hien Aquaculture Company Limited (Tan Phu Dong commune, Dong Thap), opening a new pathway toward sustainable development for the province’s aquaculture sector.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Dong Thap has identified pangasius as a strategic sector and is implementing a series of measures to enhance value-added production and ensure sustainable development. The province is focusing on farming zone planning, applying high technology, conducting environmental monitoring, assigning farming area identification codes, and promoting digital transformation in production monitoring.

The People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province has officially approved the “Management Plan for Commercial Pangasius Farming Zones through 2030, with Vision to 2050.” The plan aims to optimize the utilization of land, technology, and resources; promote sustainable development; adapt to climate change; and enhance the value-added of pangasius products - thereby improving farmers’ income and facilitating the structural transformation of the agricultural sector.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The area for Pangasius farming in Dong Thap currently exceeds 1,332 hectares, with over 180 hectares harvested, yielding 81,733 tons of fish. The Pangasius industry has 87% of its production area in line with the planning regulations; most production areas apply technical procedures and standards to meet the market requirements of importing countries.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Dong Thap is a key region for pangasius farming, boasting the largest production in the Mekong Delta. In the first seven months of 2024, the estimated aquaculture area reached 4,778 hectares, with a harvest yield of 307,336 tons. Of this, the intensive pangasius farming area covered 2,042 hectares, with a harvest of 252,670 tons.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of June 16, Dong Thap province's pangasius farming sector has witnessed remarkable growth, with a 6.9% increase in farming area compared to the same period last year. The total pangasius farming area has reached 1,957.06 hectares, with an estimated harvest output of 265,177 tons.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The pangasius industry of the southern province of Dong Thap has now expanded its export markets to 134 countries, including high-end markets such as Europe and the US.
