As of October 15th, 2024, Vietnamese shrimp exports to the US reached nearly 600 million dollas, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The demand for US shrimp imports from Vietnam has been quite stable since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Vietnamese shrimp in the US market is becoming more and more competitive when India (the largest supplier of shrimp in the US) also faces many barriers due to the Covid epidemic. The market share of Vietnamese shrimp in the US increased from about 8% (2020) to nearly 10% in the first 9 months of 2021.

In which, shrimp exports accounted for 94% with 535 million USD, the rest were fish cakes, surimi, squid, octopus and other mollusks.

According to the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province, in the first 6 months of 2021, the weather is quite favorable for aquaculture, so shrimp develops well, many high-tech shrimp farming models have brought high economic efficiency. Accordingly, there are 7 companies and 472 households developing high-tech agricultural models with an area of 1,126.26ha; The average yield of farmed shrimp is nearly 23 tons/ha.

Shrimp exports to most markets achieved a good growth, especially the value of shrimp exports to China - Hong Kong decreased by 19% over the same period in 2020.

Up to now, the US continues to be the leading whiteleg shrimp export market of Vietnamese seafood enterprises. In particular, in the first months of this year, Vietnamese enterprises sharply increased the export of dried shrimp and processed vannamei shrimp to the US market.

In which, MINH PHU SEAFOOD CORP, STAPIMEX and MINH PHU HAU GIANG continue to be the top 3 exporters.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first four months of 2021, Vietnam's total shrimp export value reached US$961.9 million, up 10.2% over the same period last year, of which whiteleg shrimp products accounting for 75.8% of total shrimp exports, up 20%. This result reflects the flexible grasp of the market by Vietnamese shrimp enterprises to overcome obstacles of many Covid waves.

As of the first half of April 2021, the total value of Vietnam's shrimp exports to the Australian market reached US$47.4 million, up 60% over the same period last year.

In which, CPTPP market sector is still leading, accounting for 34.26% of total shrimp export. Lack of containers and high sea freight to European and US markets and congestion at Chinese import ports due to strict corona virus control regulations have affected Vietnam's shrimp exports in the first 2 months of the year. However, since March, the situation has been more positive, so it is forecasted that shrimp exports in the second quarter of 2021 will flourish again.

Positive signs have been seen in shrimp exports since the beginning of this year and alongside a host of favourable conditions regarding market demand, the target of earning 4 billion USD from exports has been deemed “within reach”.
