In 5 years, from the fifth importers of seafood in the world in 2009, China emerged to the third after Japan and the U.S thanks to huge consumption of the country with big populations and developing industry of processing for exports. For Vietnam, the market became the third biggest importers in 2013 after the U.S and Japan. China is the important market for Vietnam seafood and will maintain its role in coming years.

VASEP has completed a short report on Vietnam seafood exports to China in past 10 years (2003 – 2013), showing the growth trend of the market. This is an annex of Report on Vietnam seafood exports in 2013.

Vietnam seafood exports got the highest growth in 3 years

As expected, in QI/2014, Vietnam shrimp exports continued to get positive results in 2013 and reported high growth thanks to increase in whiteleg shrimp production and shipment. This contributed to driving total seafood exports of the country to reach US$1.65 billion, up 31 percent year on year, the highest growth level in 3 years.

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam seafood exports in 2013 outreached the target of US$6.5 billion to reach US$6.7 billion. The figure was attributable to a great contribution of shrimp export turnover with over US$3 billion, making up 46 percent of the country’s total seafood exports.
Big increase in Vietnam shrimp exports to China

(vasep.com.vn) Seafood exports to China in first 10 months of 2013 totaled US$462 million, up 37 percent year-on-year in which shrimp shipment valued at US$310 million, up 50 percent. In October alone, shrimp exports to China nearly doubled compared to the same month of 2012.

(vasep.com.vn) In QIII/2013, Vietnam’s seafood exports increased by 17.4 percent to US$1.9 billion in which exports of shrimp (dominated by whiteleg shrimp) reported a tremendous increase thanks to short supply of global shrimp and rising shrimp price; exports of other seafood items slowed down or decreased. In the first 9 months of 2013, Vietnam sold its seafood products to 156 markets, earning back US$4.8 billion, up 6.4 percent year-on-year.

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam seafood exports reached US$1.9 billion in Q.III/2013, an increase of 17.4% over the same period last year. Shrimp exports continuously grew from the second quarter, while pangasius exports slowed in the third quarter, the export of tuna and other marine products continues downward trend from the previous quarters.
REPORT: Vietnam seafood exports to the EU in first 8 months of 2013

(vasep.com.vn) Up to 15th of August 2013, Vietnam's seafood exports to EU reached U.S$667.3 million, down 4.6% from the same period last year, in which pangasius exports decreased 12.8% to US$237 million, shrimp exports increased by 5.3% to reach U.S$195 million; tuna exports rose 33.8% to US$89 million. (vasep.com.vn) Up to 15th August 2013, Vietnam seafood exports reached US$3.8 billion, up 3.2% from the same period last year. In which, shrimp exports increased by nearly 18%, pangasius down 1.1%, tuna fell 3.4%, other seafood items decreased by 4.6% - 16%.
