Vietnam tuna exports to the EU is showing signs of recovery and upturn in the remainder of this year after several months of declines, hitting US$87.9 million in ten months, a year-on-year rise of 4.9%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 10 months of 2016, Vietnam’s tuna exports totaled US$410 million, up 5.2% compared to the same period last year. During this period, Vietnam’s enterprises tended to boost exports of frozen tuna loins (HS code 0304) and cooked tuna loin or flake (HS code 1604). Exports of frozen tuna loin reached US$196.3 million, accounting for 47.8% of Vietnam’s total tuna exports.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Italy is one of the biggest markets in the world for tuna consumption with a 3% rise in the import demand in the first half of 2016. In particular, imports frozen tuna as raw materials surged up 17%. Shipments to the market accounted for 6% Vietnam tuna exports. Recently, Italy stayed as a potential importing market of Vietnam, for both frozen and processed segments.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 9 months of 2016, Vietnam tuna exports totaled US$354.6 million, an increase of 3.8% over the same period last year. Of that, exports of fresh/live/frozen tuna (HS code 03) accounted for 57.8% of total export value.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam are top 3 largest suppliers of tuna to Israel. According to the ITC, as of Jun 2016, tuna imports into Israel totaled over US$37 million, in which, imports from Thailand hit US$10.8 million, imports from Philiipines hit US$8 million and imports from Vietnam reached nearly US$7 million.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the decline in 3 consecutive years, Vietnam tuna exports this year showed signs of recovery. Tuna sales in August 2016 hit US$43.8 million, up 10% year on year. Through August 2016, the figure was US$309.8 million, up 2.1% year on year.

Vietnam’s tuna exports increased by 0.9 percent in the first seven month of the year to reach more than 266 million USD, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Producers and Exporters (Vasep).

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Canada claimed as the 7th largest tuna importer in the world and was listed in top 8 largest tuna importers from Vietnam. While Vietnam tuna exports to major markets such as the U.S, EU and Japan witnessed a fall in recent months, those to Canada posted a continuous rise. Canada is regarded as a potential market to replace some traditional markets of Vietnam tuna at this time.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of July 2016, Vietnam sent tuna to 87 importing markets, and tuna exports of the country are showing signs of recovery. In Jan-Jul 2016, Vietnam's tuna exports valued at over US$266 million, up 0.9% compared to the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first half of 2016, Vietnam tuna exports hit US$224.7 million, equal to that of the same period of 2015. The figure in the period saw no growth due to low demand from main markets and higher global tuna price.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Mexico is one of the 20 largest tuna suppliers as well as it is also one of large importers of tuna in the world. Through May 2016, Mexico imported tuna from 18 countries around the world including Vietnam.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In June 2016, Vietnam tuna exports to Italy reached more than US$2.9 million, up 69% compared to the same period last year. Thanks to the consecutive growth since earlier this year, exports to the market in the first half of 2016 hit US$12.9 million, up 98.6% year on year. So far, Italy stayed as the largest tuna importer from Vietnam in the EU.

According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, tuna sales in May 2016 hit nearly US$38.45 million, down 7.3% over the same period. The figure in first 5 months of this year estimated at US$179.9 million, down 4% year on year.
