(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Australia is the 16th largest shrimp importer in the world, accounting for 1.5% of total global shrimp imports in 2017.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The Netherlands is Vietnam's largest shrimp importer in the EU, accounting for 26% of Vietnam shrimp exports to the EU and accounting for 5.8% of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports to markets in 2017. Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the Netherlands witnessed the continuous growth in 2017 compared with the previous year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) From 2013 until now, whiteleg shrimp always accounted for over 50% in the total export turnover of shrimp and increasingly express its key position. This item expected to continue to be a key export item in the coming time, contributing significantly to the total export turnover of shrimp in particular and seafood in general. Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp exports are projected to continue the increase in 2018.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked People’s Committees of cities and provinces with large areas of shrimp farms to employ different solutions in order to reach targets set in the national action plan for the development of the shrimp industry through 2025.

Demand for imported shrimp in Belgium remains quite stable, on average about 50 thousand MT per year. (seafood.vasep.com.vn) The U.S. Department of Commerce released today the preliminary results of the 12th administrative review of the antidumping order on frozen warmwater shrimp from Vietnam. The calculated rate for the sole mandatory exporter, Sao Ta Seafoods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX VN), was announced as 25.39%. FIMEX VN, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), and all of its members are very concerned about this result and believe that it was issued in error.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s shrimp exports in 2017 recorded a remarkable growth with a growth of 22.3% compared with 6.7% in 2016. Exports to all major markets posted the positive growth.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of November 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports reached US$3.5 billion, up 21.8% over the same period in 2016. This represented the efforts of enterprises when facing difficulties in exports to markets. Moreover, the area and output of shrimp rose in the country to ensure the supply of raw materials for processing plants. The exchange rates of Yen, Euro and Yuan against the USD also facilitated Vietnam’s shrimp exports.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam has the potential in exporting shrimp to the EU when the upcoming free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) takes effect.

Việt Nam’s shrimp industry will become a key economic sector with sustainable development that is environmentally friendly and can withstand the challenges of climate change, if the national action plan for the development of the shrimp industry by 2025 that was approved by the Prime Minister meets its targets.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) has projected shrimp exports to continue gathering momentum this year, particularly in the EU and China.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After a reduction in the first quarter, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in QII and QIII/2017 showed the possitive growth. Of that, exports in QII increased by 52% over QI, exports in QIII increased by 25% over QII and 90% over QI. Vietnam’s shrimp exports in the first nine months of the year reached US$2.7 billion; up 21.4% over the same period in 2016.

During the 10-year period (2007-2016), Vietnam was consistently the largest shrimp supplier for Switzerland, accounting for over 50 percent of total Swiss shrimp imports.
