In July 2019, shrimp exports to this market reached nearly US$56 million, up 2.2%. Due to a sharp decline in January and April, in the first 7 months of this year, shrimp exports to Japan still decreased slightly by 2.8% to nearly US$329 million.

Top 6 largest shrimp suppliers to the US included India (accounting for 38% of the total import value of shrimp into the US), Indonesia (19.5%), Ecuador (10.3%), Vietnam (10.1 %), Thailand (7.7%) and China (2%).

Vietnam’s seafood exports in the second quarter this year are forecast to rise by 8% if exports of marine products (marine finfish, tuna, cephalopod) post the sharp increase and pangasius exports show the stable growth.

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu will work closely with FLC Group and Viet Uc Group to build and develop brands for local shrimp products under a cooperative deal inked between the provincial People’s Committee and the two corporations on October 3.
