(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the report on Vietnam seafood exports in the first quarter of 2019, Vietnam’s seafood exports in the first 3 months of this year showed the slight growth of 1% to touch US$1.8 million because shrimp exports continued to decline. Vietnam’s seafood exports in the second quarter this year are forecast to rise by 8% if exports of marine products (marine finfish, tuna, cephalopod) post the sharp increase and pangasius exports show the stable growth.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnamese shrimp exports rose by 13% in July 2019, down slightly by 1.6% in August and continued to decrease by 7.4% in September. Vietnamese shrimp exports in September 2019 reached US$307.3 million, decreased by 7.4%. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2019, shrimp exports reached US$2.4 billion, down 7% from the same period in 2018.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnamese shrimp exports to China rose by 10% to nearly US$47 million in June 2019. In the first six months of 2019, exports to this market declined by 4.9% to US$233.5 million.

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu will work closely with FLC Group and Viet Uc Group to build and develop brands for local shrimp products under a cooperative deal inked between the provincial People’s Committee and the two corporations on October 3.

The EU market looks a strong opportunity for Vietnamese shrimp exports in the coming years, said Nguyen Tien Thong of Danish research body Syntesa.

Vietnamese shrimp giant Minh Phu Seafood is hoping its new shrimp farming technology, financially facilitated by Japanese Mitsui’s share purchase, will create a fundamental change in the shrimp aquaculture sector.
