Binh Dinh develops export-oriented red tilapia farming chain

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Binh Dinh province is focusing on developing a red tilapia farming chain in the Dinh Binh reservoir (Vinh Thanh district), aiming to meet food safety standards for export to Europe and other developed countries.

Dinh Binh reservoir, with a capacity of 226 million cubic meters and a year-round abundant water supply, provides ideal conditions for cage fish farming. Currently, more than 32 households are involved, operating 460 cages. In 2024, total output was estimated at 750 tons, with red tilapia accounting for 600 tons. The main markets are within the province and nearby regions such as Da Nang, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum.

However, the farming sector remains largely spontaneous, lacking uniformity in fingerling quality, farming techniques, and market access. To increase product value, Binh Dinh is implementing a linkage program with enterprises, offering technical training, regular water quality monitoring, and disease prevention.

EVERTRUST BINH DINH COMPANY LIMITED began purchasing red tilapia from Dinh Binh reservoir in June 2025 at a price of VND 60,000–65,000/kg — VND 10,000–15,000 higher than last year. The company is also working to establish export channels to Europe and has proposed monitoring chemical residues and developing food safety-compliant farming protocols.

With a systematic approach, red tilapia farming in Binh Dinh now has a promising opportunity to reach international markets, contributing to increased incomes and sustainable local economic development.
