Vietnam- second biggest source for processed clams in Italy
(vasep.com.vn) Processed clams from Vietnam are quite popular now in Italy with good price and quality. Processed clam import of Italy is falling but imports from Vietnam are increasing. According to Vietnam General Customs, as of 15th September 2015, bivalve molluscs exports to Italy worth US$ 9.65 million, up 6% year-on-year. Italy is now Vietnam's second most favorite destination for bivalve molluscs in the EU, just after Portugal.
Vietnam is the second biggest source of processed clam in Italy.
Data from the International Trade Centre (ITC) revealed that in the first 6 months of this year, Italy imported processed clam valued at US$ 11.56 million, down 2.5% year-on-year. Top 3 suppliers were Turkey, Vietnam and Thailand. Turkey, the biggest source witnessed a decrease of 10.27% and Thailand, the 3rd largest source saw a nosedive of 87.3%. Meanwhile, processed clam imported into Italy from Vietnam worth US$ 4.54 million, up 26.1% over the same period in 2014.
