Vietnam cephalopod exports to EU jumped up 101%

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) With the continuous high growth in the first 6 months of 2017, the EU remained as the third largest importing market of Vietnam cephalopod, behind South Korea and Japan. Vietnam’s total cephalopod exports to the EU in the first half of the year hit US$51.5 million, up 101.6% over the same period in 2016.

In Jan-Jun 2017, Italy, France and the Netherlands stayed as the leading buyers of Vietnam cephalopod in the EU. According to Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to these three markets in the period recorded the good growth. Remarkably, exports to France and the Netherlands continued to experience the 3-digit growth of 272% and 282%, respectively.

Italy

Italy held as the biggest buyer of Vietnam cephalopod in the EU, accounting for 11% of Vietnam's cephalopod sales. Vietnam’s exports of this item to Italy in the first 6 months totaled US$29.5 million, up 88% year on year.

According to the statistics from International Trade Center (ITC), Italy's cephalopod imports in the first four months of this year reached 6.3 thousand MT, worth by US$36 million, down 88% in volume and value from a year before.

India was the largest supplier of cephalopod to the market, accounting for 4% of the country's total cephalopod imports; followed by China and Indonesia with 3.6% and 3.5% respectively. Vietnam currently ranked the 11th with the share of 1%.

The Netherlands

The Netherlands was the third largest importer of Vietnam cephalopod in the EU, making up 1.3% of Vietnam's cephalopod sales. In the first half of this year, exports to this market increased by 282.2% to eye US$3.7 million.

Imports of frozen raw squid (HS code 030749) into the Netherlands took up the main proportion. The country imports raw cephalopod for processing and re-exporting to other countries in the EU. According to the statistics from ITC, in 2016, the Netherlands imported 6,908 MT of cephalopod from countries in the world, worth by US$27.6 million; equal in volume and up 9% in value compared to 2015. Vietnam was the 5th largest supplier of cephalopod to the Netherlands, accounting for 7.6% of the country's cephalopod imports, behind China, India, the U.S and Thailand.

France

France was currently the sixth largest importer of Vietnam cephalopod. In the first 6 months of this year, exports to the market grew impressively by 272% to see US$5.2 million.
