(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In QI/2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to South Korea hit US$40.1 million, up 27.9% over the same period last year. South Korea remained as the biggest buyer of Vietnam cephalopod, accounting for 37%, down 1% compared to QI/2016
Demand for cephalopod in South Korea was high, especially dried items. In 2016, seafood imports into South Korea increased for the third year in a row thanks to a rise in demand for healthy food.
In 2016, imports of cephalopod into South Korea increased in both volume and value. In terms of volume, Vietnam ranked the third in top largest suppliers of cephalopod to South Korea, behind China and Chile. However, in terms of value, Vietnam ranked the second, behind China, accounting for 24.7% in total cephalpod imports into South Korea. In 2016, South Korea imported 160,977 MT of cephalopod, in which, imports from China reached 65,103 MT, those from Chile were 28,755 MT and those from Vietnam were 26,335 MT. The average import price of cephalopod into South Korea in 2016 quoted at US$ 3,964 per ton, of which the price from Vietnam was US$5,499 per ton.
