(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first quarter of 2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Israel totaled US$870,000, an increase of 230.3% over the same period in 2016. Shipments to the market recorded the highest growth out of top 9 importing markets of Vietnam cephalopod in earlier this year
In the period of 2005-2015, Vietnam was the leading supplier of cephalopod to Israel. In general, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Israel were on the upward trend during this period with the highest growth in 2016. In the first nine months of 2016, cephalopod imports from Vietnam into Israel peaked at 1,354 MT, up 132% from 2015. Vietnam currently accounted for 83.8% of Israel's total imports of cephalopod.
In Jan-Sep 2016, Israel imported 1,567 MT of cephalopod from countries around the world, valued at US$5.7 million, up 83% in volume and 17% in value over 2015. This time, Israel bought cephalopod from 9 countries in the world. Vietnam stayed as the largest one, followed by Thailand and Taiwan. However, imports from Thailand and Taiwan picked up small shares of 7.6% and 2.5% respectively.
In Jan-Sep 2016, imports of frozen squid into Israel made up the largest proportion with the volume of 1,363 MT, an increase of 126% over 2015. Imports of processed squid into Israel hit 176 MT, down 23%.
The average import price of cephalopod into Israel in the first nine months of 2016 reached US$3,638 per ton, of which the import price from Vietnam was US$3,528 per ton. The average price of Vietnam was lower than that of Thailand and Taiwan.
