Fish landings up 5 percent in Jan-May 2014

(vasep.com.vn) During the current South fishing season, many fishing vessels started going offshore fishing with bumper fish landings thanks to favorable weather conditions and abundant fish resources in the Central and South Central Coast.

Through May 2014, Vietnam capture production was estimated to reach 1,161 thousand MT, up 4.8 percent year on year, in which marine catch hit 1,097 thousand MT, up 5.1 percent year on year.

During the period, high capture production of finfish was reported in some provinces such as Ca Mau (203,000 MT), Kien Giang (191,544 MT), Ba Ria-Vung Tau (120,739 MT), Binh Thuan (62,443 MT), Ben Tre (55,400 MT), Quang Ngai (52,012 MT), Bac Lieu (49,984 MT), Ninh Thuan (42,142 MT), Quang Ninh (23,493 MT), Thai Binh (23,463 MT), Quang Binh (16,785 MT).

Between January and May 2014, tuna output was reported in some major producing provinces such as Binh Dinh with estimated production of 4,007 MT (up 5.1 percent year on year); Khanh Hoa with 3,939 MT (up 9 percent) and Phu Yen with 2,725 MT  (down 30.1 percent).
