(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first three months of 2018, the EU continued to stay as the third largest importer of Vietnam cephalopod. The export value of Vietnam cephalopod to the EU in this period reached US$17.3 million, a decrease of 13.5% over the same period of 2017.
Italy, France and Spain were the three biggest markets for Vietnam cephalopod in the first three months of 2018, with the shares of 7%, 2% and 1%, respectively. Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Italy and France decreased by 25.5% and 7.3% compared with the same period in 2017, while exports to Spain increased by 73% year on year.
In Jan-Mar 2018, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to the EU increased compared with the same period last year. Remarkably, exports of dried/salted/fresh/live/frozen octopus to this market experienced an impressive rise of 135%, reaching more than US$3 million. Meanwhile, exports of squid products to the EU went down, except for dried/grilled squid.

According to the ITC statistics, in 2017, cephalopod imports into the EU decreased by 86.3% from 2016, reaching US$384.4 million. Italy, France and Spain also held as the three largest importers of the EU.
