Many past years, Vinh Hoan has been trying to maximize value of the by products from pangasius processing. Collagen production industry is a new business with potentially high profitability, but requirement of high technology. Vinh Hoan has co-operated with its partner producing Collagen samples from fish skin at a university’s laboratory in the U.S. The results show that Collagen from fish skin is good in terms of purity and molecular weight. Therefore, Vinh Hoan decided to start the project of Collagen and Gelatin production in 2010.
In the late 2011, the company started building the pilot production workshop in Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province to meet small orders with an aim to surveying the markets and improving technology and building larger scale collagen production factory.
In mid-March/2012, the company launched the pilot production workshop in Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province. After successfully testing, the project with total investment of VND9 billion officially went into operation.
The project belongs to a close production chain on the large scale to take full advantage of the byproducts to increase earnings and minimize bad effect on environment.
The president of Dong Thap People's Committee affirmed that the province will always accompany with enterprises, including Vinh Hoan to implement preferential policy on high tech industry. Amid a lot of hardship, Vinh Hoan is seeking new business with high potentiality to develop.

While the price of 1 kg of shrimp hovers around 20 USD, the value of 1 kg of chitosan—extracted from shrimp—can soar to 500 USD. This highlights a significant challenge within the seafood processing industry.

VASEP's Seafood Export Report for the third quarter of 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's seafood export performance in the first nine months, with impressive results reaching $7.2 billion—an increase of 9% over the same period last year. In the third quarter alone, seafood exports grew by 15%, totaling $2.8 billion. This growth is attributed to a recovery in demand and prices in key markets such as the U.S. and China, as well as the competitive advantage of value-added products in markets like Japan and Australia.
