(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Fisheries production in Northern and South West provinces of Vietnam reaped high yielding in May 2016.
May was time for the south fishing season, weather was favorable and the Decree 67 on supporting fuels and capital for building new fishing vessels proved its effectiveness and the number of offshore vessels with high capacity rose. This helped to boost capture production by local fishermen.
In Jan-May 2016, the capture production estimated to reach 1,298 thousand MT, up 2.8% year on year in which marine catch estimated to touch 1,235 thousand MT.
In the first 5 months of 2016, tuna production from 3 main producing provinces estimated to reach 9,333 thousand MT. In which, tuna output in Binh Dinh province touched 4,720 MT, up 13.2% year on year; Khanh Hoa reported 1,974 thousand MT of ocean tuna, up 15% year on year; tuna yield in Phu Yen province reached 2,911 MT, down 6,1% year on year.
