(TSVN) – In the first seven months of 2025, Tay Ninh’s fisheries sector recorded fairly positive results. Although farming area slightly decreased compared to the same period last year, improved productivity led to an increase in output.
The estimated aquatic product output for July 2025 is 13,359 tons, a decrease of 0.19% compared to the same period last year. Of which, capture fisheries accounted for 594 tons (down 1.82%), including 290 tons from inland waters (down 3.33 and 304 tons from marine fishing (down 0.33%). Meanwhile, aquaculture production reached 12,765 tons (down 0.12%), comprising with fish at 10,248 tons (down 3.41%); shrimp at 2,115 tons (up 19.16%) and other aquatic products at 402 tons (up 1.77%).
For the first seven months of 2025, total fisheries output was estimated at 106,138 tons, up 12.78% year-on-year. Aquaculture accounted for 102,674 tons, an increase of 11.56% (including fish 86,386 tons, up 13.49%; shrimp 13,322 tons, up 2.48%; other aquatic products 2,946 tons, up 1.05%). The aquaculture industry has shifted from expanding farming area to improving quality and production efficiency.
In brackish-water shrimp farming, the total stocked area was 5,130 ha, down 4.13% compared to the previous year. This included 430 hectares of black tiger shrimp (down 5.91%) and 4,700 hectares of white-leg shrimp (down 3.96%). Harvested area was estimated at 2,001 ha (down 3.94%) with productivity of 6.66 tons/ha (up 6.68%), bringing total output to 13,322 tons (up 2.48%). Specifically, harvested giant tiger shrimp covered 287 ha (up 1.41%) with a yield of 3.30 tons/ha (up 3.13%) and output of 935 tons (up 3.89%). Harvested whiteleg shrimp area was 1,714 ha (down 4.78 with productivity of 7.20 tons/ha (up 7.46%) and output of 12,387 tons (up 2.37%).
Despite a slight reduction in farming area compared to the same period last year, improved productivity led to an increase in output. This indicates that the province’s aquaculture industry has shifted from expanding area to focusing on enhancing quality and production efficiency. Since the beginning of 2025, disease-related shrimp farming losses were limited to just 1.3 hectares across 3 households (0.03% of total farming area), mainly due to white spot disease in Thuan My commune. To promptly support farmers, local authorities provided 650 kg of TCCA 90% chemical for treatment and containment, helping minimize losses and restore farmer confidence.
To prevent disease, authorities have closely monitored disease developments, strengthened water quality monitoring and guided farmers on preventive measures. Farmers are advised to use certified seed stock, manage pond environments closely and detect pathogens early. Regarding pangasius farming, in the first seven months of 2025, the stocking area reached 852 ha (down 0.92%), while the harvested area reached 196 ha (up 8.13%). Productivity was estimated at 347.90 tons/ha (up 7.15%) and output reaching 68,081 tons (up 15.83%).
Despite the encouraging results achieved in the aquaculture sector, the provincial agriculture industry acknowledges ongoing challenges, particularly climate change, potential disease outbreaks and increasingly stringent export market requirements. Therefore, moving forward, the industry will continue to promote biosecure farming practices and VietGAP standards, enhance technical training for farmers and strengthen quality control of seed quality and feed inputs. Additionally, it aims to foster production–consumption linkages to enhance product value, competitiveness and reduce risks for farmers.
