(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's seafood exports in the first five months of this year reached nearly $3.3 billion, up 14% over the same period. In general, seafood export turnover is still concentrated in the Mekong Delta provinces where the source of raw materials for aquaculture and exploitation is concentrated.
Accordingly, the seafood export of 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta region reached nearly 2 billion USD, accounting for 60%, while the export of 6 provinces in the Southeast region accounted for 18% with 602 million USD, the rest were the central and northern provinces.
However, based on sales by province and city, currently, Ho Chi Minh City is leading the country with a turnover of 356.5 million USD, accounting for nearly 11% of Vietnam's total seafood export. Soc Trang province ranked second with 346.5 million USD, accounting for 10.4%, Ca Mau ranked third with 315.2 million USD, accounting for 9.5%. These are two provinces with strengths in shrimp export. Dong Thap leads the country in exporting pangasius, with seafood export turnover in the first 5 months of the year reaching 271 million USD, accounting for 8% of the country's exports.
The central coastal province with the fourth largest sales is Khanh Hoa with $291.4 million, accounting for 8.8% of the country's export value. Along with Khanh Hoa, there are two central provinces with high export turnover: Da Nang with $87 million, Binh Thuan with $81 million in sales in the first 5 months of the year.
