(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Compared to the same period last year, in Q1/2021, seafood exports of Bac Lieu province was quite prosperous and the export turnover reached over 163 million USD, equaling 18.46% of the year plan and increasing by 8.31% over the same period. Seafood exporters continue to take advantage to expand new markets of shrimp and other seafood products.
Processing aquatic products for export is the key economic sector of the Mekong Delta province, attracting thousands of workers to participate in production. Over the past years, the economy of the province has continuously maintained growth and development at a fairly rapid rate. If in 2015, the export turnover only reached about 447 million USD, in 2020 it surpassed 785 million USD, with an average growth rate of over 11% per year. Despite facing difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, in 2020 seafood exports still increased by 11.24% over the same period. In particular, frozen shrimp exports reached 72,480 tons and increased by 10.27% over the same period.
Since the 2021 Lunar New Year, seafood exports has entered a recovery stage after the heavy effects of COVID-19 epidemic and continues to grow with a high rate. Specifically, the province's export turnover increased by 8.31% over the same period (only 2.7%) and mainly focused on shrimp products.
Having that result, there are notable efforts from exporting enterprises in dynamically overcoming difficulties and trying to increase export turnover in traditional export markets such as: Japan, EU, United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Middle East ... while also continue to expand into new markets to take advantage of opportunities brought by the EVFTA Agreement.
