(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Following the merger, Can Tho City is likely to become Vietnam’s top locality in both seafood and shrimp exports for the first time this year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In July 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City continued implementing plans and solutions to develop aquaculture and protect aquatic resources, while regularly conducting environmental monitoring to provide timely recommendations for farmers.

(seafood.vasep.com) Brackish water shrimp farming has been identified as a key economic sector for Can Tho City (formerly part of Soc Trang Province), with significant potential for marine economic development. To effectively leverage its existing advantages, the locality has launched the brackish ưater shrimp farming development project for the 2023–2025 period with a vision to 2030. The project aims to improve productivity and quality, protect the ecological environment, and adapt to climate change.

On the morning of April 17, in Can Tho City, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance under the Can Tho Department of Agriculture and Environment, successfully organized the seminar titled “Solutions for organizing tilapia production and export in 2025.”

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of the end of July 2024, Can Tho City's total fishery output was estimated at 137,963 tons, a 11.32% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, aquaculture production reached 134,669 tons, a 11.27% increase, mainly attributed to pangasius.
