The city’s aquaculture area in July 2025 was 1,470 ha, with production reaching 75,465 tons. Cumulatively, aquaculture stocking area reached 62,410 ha, fulfilling 66.91% of the year’s plan, down 1.96% year-on-year; production totaled 293,677 tons, achieving 45.84% of the plan, down 7.34% year-on-year. In the same month, capture fisheries output was nearly 5,890 tons, bringing total capture production to 40,735 tons, 52.9% of the plan, down 16.72% compared to the same period last year.
Can Tho currently has 79 hatcheries and nurseries for aquatic seed (including giant freshwater prawn, black tiger shrimp, white leg shrimp, pangasius, eel, snakehead fish, climbing perch, hybrid catfish, tilapia, carp, striped gourami, etc.). Of these, 17 facilities produce shrimp seed and 62 facilities produce and nurse fish seed, with production scales ranging from 50,000–87,000 m². These facilities have produced 121.4 million fish seed of various species and 108.6 million post larvae shrimp.
