In October 2024, shrimp production was estimated at 8,897 tons, representing an 11.71% decrease (or 1,181 tons) compared to the same period last year. However, the cumulative shrimp production for the first 10 months of 2024 reached an estimated 90,931 tons, an increase of 3.5% (or 3,075 tons), which includes 9,493 tons of black tiger shrimp (up 149 tons) and 75,393 tons of whiteleg shrimp (up 2,965 tons).

The increase in whiteleg shrimp production is largely attributed to the recent expansion of super-intensive, high-density shrimp farming in the province. This method has proven to deliver high productivity and economic efficiency. Although it requires significant investment, it carries relatively low risks, which has encouraged many households to expand their farming areas.

As of mid-October 2024, a total of 4,982 households were involved in intensive whiteleg shrimp farming, releasing 2.428 billion shrimp seeds over an area of 2,524.86 hectares. The distribution by locality is as follows: Duyên Hải district (1,674 households, 949.85 million shrimp seeds, 458.28 hectares), Duyên Hải town (2,883 households, 1.110 billion shrimp seeds, 1,923.3 hectares), and Cầu Ngang district (425 households, 367.75 million shrimp seeds, 143.3 hectares).

The provincial agricultural sector is currently reviewing zoning plans and enhancing support for farmers by transferring scientific and technological applications in aquaculture. These efforts aim to improve productivity and the quality of shrimp products.
