VND6,000 billion needed for fisheries

(vasep.com.vn) In July 19th 2012, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference on restructuring fisheries. According to Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish), the fishing industry has developed significantly in the recent years and made great contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

Vietnam catch production hit over 2 million MT in 2011, valued at US$2 billion in export turnover, a 4.6-fold increase against 2001. However, the industry has faced many problems and drawbacks due to weak management, uncontrolled fishing, and poor fishing conditions.

For that reason, D-Fish is drafting a project to restructure fisheries until 2020. The project, which includes 10 plans and requires total investment of VND6,000 billion, will reorganize fishing activities by establishing fishing map, forecasting the fishing grounds, setting up fish wholesale markets and fisheries logistic service centers…
