There are now 132 households operating floating cage and raft farming throughout the southern province, with 300 rafts and 462 cages. In which, 598 cages is being used for fish farm, up 61 ones (+11.4 percent) compared with the same period of 2010. Other 303 households operate pangasius farming throughout the entire area of 420 hectares, in which the surface being used for pangasius production totals 351 hectares, up 41 hectares (+13.3 percent) against the period of 2010. The surface prepared for fish farming is 40 hectares and 30 hectares are now being used for other species.
From the beginning of 2011, the cumulative pangasius production were 39,000 MT, down 1,300 MT (-3.2 percent) compared with the same period of 2010, because the important pangasius harvest season just starts in May 2011.
