Vinh Long harvested 56,000 MT pangasius
(pangasius-vietnam.com) So far, Vinh Long - a Mekong Delta-based province - totaled 2,950 hectares of water surface for fish aquaculture, fulfilling more than 92 percent of its yearly plan. The province farmed pangasius on an area of 433 hectares and produced 56,000 MT of fish, according to Vinh Long Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Currently, local farmers are facing many difficulties in pangasius farming activities and there are more fish ponds left uncultivated. Farmers are pushed to reduce aquatic feed in breeding, leading to a lower fish harvest.
To curb the situation, some collective management models like fisheries inter-cooperatives and fisheries associations were established and ran in line in Vinh Long province. The Fisheries Association initially gathers organizations and individuals operating in pangasius sector with the purpose to create links among stakeholders, contributing to protect of their legal benefits.
