(pangasius-vietnam.com) In Vinh Long province, intensive pangasius farming area has reached 423 hectares, in which, farmers are breeding 278.5 hectares of fish, down 9.7 percent year-on-year.
Raw pangasius price is at VND21,000 – 23,500 per kilogram while production costs amount to VND23,000 – 24,000 per kilogram. As a result, farmers are forced to leave many farming ponds uncultivated.
To move towards sustainable pangasius farming, local authorities are planning intensive fish farming areas, building aquatic farming models in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way (comply with VietGAP, BMP, GlobalGAP, ASC...). The authorities also intensify training farmers and disseminate advanced technologies to them.
Local farmers are encouraged to diversify farmed species to meet demand from different markets.
