(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 6 months of this year, UAE has replaced Saudi Arabia in the top 8 importing markets of Vietnamese pangasius. During this period, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to this market has achieved three-digit growth compared to last year.
In 2017, the UAE held as the third largest market of Vietnamese pangasius exporters in the Middle East with the value of US$23 million, down 13.2% compared to 2016; but in 2018, the situation witnessed the positive signs. In the first 6 months of 2018, the export value of pangasius to this market increased sharply. In the first two months, exports increased from 28-66.3%. As from March 2018, the export value increased from 117% to 221% over the same period in 2017.
The demand for imports of pangasius in this market remains stable. Therefore, the export value to the UAE continued to grow in the first 6 months. In addition, companies also increased shipments of pangasius to other markets such as Egypt.
Only in the first two quarters of this year, the export value of Vietnamese pangasius to the UAE touched US$27 million, up 17.4% over the full year 2017 and up 130.7% over the same period last year. Therefore, Vietnam’s pangasius sales to the UAE in the second half of 2018 expected to continue the positive growth rate.
