(pangasius-vietnam.com) In July
Pangasius export to EU tended to drop both in volume and value because of partly European economic recession and sovereign debt crisis. Vietnam pangasius export to EU in July 2011 reached 14,068 MT, valued at US$41.49 million, down 26.3 percent in volume and 6.4 percent in value.
In contrast with the gloomy state of EU market, Vietnam pangasius export to the U.S. has been increasing despite barriers of anti-dumping duty on pangasius and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s reconsideration of the definition of pangasius.
In July 2011, Vietnam pangasius export to the U.S. reached 7,105 MT, worth US$26.4 million, down on that of the previous month but up on that of the same period last year. In the first seven months of 2011, pangasius export to the U.S. reached 45,944 MT, worth US$161.2 million, up 77.1 percent in volume and 99.4 percent in value on those of the same period last year.
The U.S. still strengthens to import Vietnam pangasius due to the shortage of domestic supply for catfish.
Vietnam pangasius export to Mexico also tends to rise. In the first seven months of 2011, Mexico imported 21,024 MT of Vietnam pangasius, valued at US$52.7 million, up 3.6 percent in volume and 18.9 percent in value compared with those of the corresponding period of 2010. However, in July 2011, Vietnam pangasius export to Mexico dropped strongly, down 52.8 percent in volume (1,537 MT) and down 40.7 percent in value (US$4.17 million).
By the end of July 2011, in Vietnam, there are 231 pangasius exporters to 132 countries and territories in which Vinh Hoan Corp is still Vietnam’s the leading pangasius exporter.
