VietGAP is required for pangasius farms by 2015

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Vietnamese government has recently issued the Decree No.36/2014/NĐ-CP on farming, processing and export of pangasius products. By December 31, 2015, commercial fish farms are required to apply and certified against VietGAP Standard or other international standards in compliance with Vietnamese law.

Besides, the farms are compulsory located in the planning areas which approved by People's Committee in localities. They also have to register fish superficies and output with local managing agencies.

All regulations and technical standards on aquaculture are obligatory to meet by the farms and they will be certified and provided identification codes by local aquaculture-managing agencies. They also have to use fingerlings, feed, vet drugs, biological products, micro-organisms and chemical products permitted by Vietnamese law.

The new decree also includes detailed regulations on quality and food safety of processed pangasius products. Raw pangasius for processing need to be grown in farms satisfying the regulated requirements.

Processed pangasius is required to comply with regulations on seafood quality and food safety set by Vietnam and other importing markets.

For frozen processed pangasius fillets, Vietnamese processing facilities are asked to use chemicals, additives listed by Vietnamese law and other importing countries.
